31 days of powerful prayer. Day 7: Lord, teach me to pray!

, , No Comments
Today I would like to ask you to join me to pray this simple prayer:
Lord, teach me to pray!

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
-Luke 11:1

The Disciples saw that the way Jesus prayed was powerful so one of them asked Jesus:
Lord, teach us to pray.
It's interesting that none of them asked for example "Lord, teach us to teach" or
"Lord, teach us how to do miracles”.
No...they wanted to learn how to pray as Jesus prayed, because they saw that
his prayers were powerful.
Jesus made prayer a priority!
So Jesus answered them:

“And now about prayer. When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who pretend piety by praying publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. Truly, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, all alone, and shut the door behind you and pray to your Father secretly, and your Father, who knows your secrets, will reward you.
“Don’t recite the same prayer over and over as the heathen do, who think prayers are answered only by repeating them again and again. Remember, your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!

Pray, therefore, like this:
-Matthew 6:5-13

So Jesus counseled his disciples to pray specifically as
we can read from the Lord's prayer.
Jesus didn't meant that we would use this prayer as a repetition,
but He was offering a healthy pattern.
Tomorrow we look more closely the Lord's prayer, but
today take some time and pray these simple words:
Lord, teach me to pray!
And God will help you to pray!
